It's one of Sydney’s best kept secrets, but now the sheer beauty, idyllic views, natural bushland and wildlife surrounding Sydney Harbour, as seen from the Harbour foreshore paths, will be the city’s focus this Father’s Day, Sunday 4 September, 2011.
The inaugural SIMS Harbour Hike is an 11km easy to moderate walk from under the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Kirribilli, around the breathtaking foreshore paths on the lower north shore to Clifton Gardens Reserve, Chowder Bay, Mosman. At ten checkpoints along the course teams will answer trivia questions about Sydney Harbour to be in to win great prizes.
The fun will continue at the finish line at Clifton Gardens Reserve with a marine-themed festival featuring sustainable seafood, live entertainment and children’s activities including sea kayaking and kite-making, along with displays and information about Sydney Harbour. SIMS marine scientists and Sydney Harbour National Park rangers will be on hand to discuss the unique environment of the Harbour.

Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race – ‘Shepherd Centre’
The Shepherd Centre's Board Member, Dr Hugh Torode changed the name of his yacht from 'Pelagic Magic' to 'Shepherd Centre' for the 2010 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race to raise vital funds for The Shepherd Centre.
Hugh set up his own fundraising page through Everyday Hero where his family, friends & colleagues were able to donate and leave him and his team messages of support. His fundraising target was set at $50,000.
As an incentive Dr Hugh Torode was offering companies the opportunity for their logo to be prominently displayed on the side of the yacht, if they made a donation of $2000 or more. The Bank of Cyprus who generously donated $10,000 received naming rights of the sail.
After the race donations were still pouring in for Hugh and his team including a donations of $20,000 from an anonymous donor. In total $51,630 was raised by Hugh and his team which was a great result!
